A bit about me - James

I am passionate about travel, detail, and service. Combine these and you come out with my one simple, sole purpose – to encourage and indulge your curiosity about the world and to ensure that your time away is perfect.

With over 25 years in travel specialising in ocean and river cruising and exotic travel destinations I've a wealth of experience behind me.

I started in hospitality here in the UK and soon realised this was going to be my lifetime passion.

In my late 20's I had the amazing opportunity to go to sea for what I planned would be a year to allow me to see the world. Skip 12 years later and I was still there. I've been fortunate enough to experience first-hand over 126 countries (out of 195!) on all seven continents (Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica and Europe).

The time I spent at sea was truly amazing as it gave me the opportunity to see and experience places and cultures some people only manage visiting over decades. As well as exploring some of the world's most beautiful destinations I managed to put on several pounds from the amazing food and wine served onboard.

Starting out in the Purser's Office, before moving taking over as Food & Beverage Manager and finally Hotel Director, I've had the privilege of working with literally thousands of dedicated individuals who together make a cruise holiday the most exceptional experience.

After 12 years of on an amazing journey I realised at some stage the dream would have to come to an end and so I decided I would make the journey back to life on land. This isn't an easy decision when you work 3 months away and then have 3 months holiday, believe me.

I hadn't lost my passion for travel and so when I finally return to shore life, I remained in travel, working for a range of exceptional travel businesses.

During this time, I realised that our amazing travel sectors were full of super stars who's passion for their business is second to none. It was from this that I started my consultancy business, working with independent retail agencies to maximise their revenue and focus on what made them unique and so appealing to their customers.

Friends and family kept asking me why I wasn't doing this for myself instead of helping others. Well after much deliberation I bit the bullet and set-up Curated Escapes and haven't looked back since.

I know that it's incredibly important to spend your time off well. I've been there. It's why I created Curated Escapes, Limited Edition. So, it's safe to say that your precious time off is safe in my hands, because I understand how every moment counts and you don't want to miss a single thing.
